Islamic Center of Melville was established in October of 2000 with the purchase of a 1.3 acre land in Melville, New York. The vision and generosity of 22 families helped create the foundations of where we stand now. With additional help from Muslims and non-Muslims alike, we were also able to purchase the 1 acre land next door. We are now in the process of building the New ICM Center that will continue the legacy started by our original founders.
We are people who will always strive to:
It is our belief that our primary concern should be to serve the needs of the local community and
to work towards the common good. This builds on the very foundation of ICM.
The Islamic Center of Melville works actively to promotes tolerance and understanding. Our doors are open, inviting people to visit and view an exhibition about Islam and Muslims, ask questions, and create an open dialogue with the community as to what Islam truly is.
Our Imams and congregation encourage constructive engagement in society and a rejection of extremism in all its forms. We unequivocally reject all terrorism. During the rise of extremist groups, who spurned cooperation with others and denounced participation in the democratic process, ICM stood firm against this distortion of Muslim beliefs. We continually advise worshippers to ensure they are registered to vote and to take part in local and national elections.
The Islamic Center of Melville offers a range of services that enable young people and women to engage in a positive and safe environment. We have one of the largest congregations in Long Island, with increasing numbers of youth actively engaging in programs of learning Arabic ,Quran and participate in recreation programs and sports.
Our facilities provide women to access relevant services in a culturally sensitive environment. Our mothers, grandmothers, wives, sisters, and daughters are all integral members that make ICM function in the manner that it does.
